busy street

I feel exactly as though I am walking down a very busy, congested, urban street with lots of traffic on the road and pedestrians on the sidewalks.  I am walking down one side of the street.  My friends are all on the other side, going wherever they are going.  We can wave at each other and yell “hi”, but the noise, traffic, and distance prevent us from stopping and interacting.  Occasionally, if I’m lucky, I get to an intersection and can cross over and meet a friend or group of friends.  Sometimes we have the chance to sit at a cafe for a short talk, sometimes we sit down for a meal in a restaurant, and sometimes we go to a show or a museum.  Usually, though, we just have time to call out, would love to get together, just can’t get across right now…
