Booked hotel accommodations for Seattle √ – Vancouver √ – and Victoria √ in August. Can’t wait! We already have the flight reservations from Oakland to Seattle and back. Fortunately I saved a ton on the airfare by traveling Wednesday to Wednesday. I have my boss Mark to thank for that; because of a deal closing he suggested I time the trip after the bond sale; normally I would have scheduled the trip weekend to weekend. The mid-week travel turned out so much cheaper, I can plow more money into excursions and dining!
Once we get there, we are renting a car and spending a couple of days in Seattle – Mt. Ranier National Park, Discovery Park, the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, etc.:
Then we will drive to Vancouver for a couple of days – I love that city, so clean and beautiful in an urban way but with the surrounding natural beauty, in similar fashion to Seattle:
Because we only had about 5 hours to spend in Victoria during our Alaskan cruise, I promised we would return there, so we will drive from Vancouver and spend a couple of nights in the fabulous Empress Hotel:
We will all visit the Butchart Gardens (during our Alaskan trip, Karen and Lara saw the gardens, but Erik and I had not taken that opportunity, so we will see it this time around):
Another fun and interesting part of the trip is that we will take the car on a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria and then later back to Seattle:
It’s kind of expensive relative to airfare and such – over a hundred dollars one way! But it will be worth it. 🙂
I took a train and visited Seattle and Vancouver not long after graduate school in the late 80s, but Karen and the kids have never been, and I hope they enjoy the area as much as I did. Everyone talks about the rainy weather up there, but it should be OK during the summer. Millions of people love the Pacific northwest despite the weather, and they can’t all be wrong!
Now that the accommodations are set up we can have fun dreaming about all the cool sites and activities! I am enjoying July first, but come on, August!
